The WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital Plastic Surgery Team offers an invaluable service to pediatric cancer patients, using their skills to reconstruct and improve the appearance and functionality of parts of the body affected by cancer resection.

WVU Medicine Children’s Plastic Surgery Director Dr. Sebastian Brooke said that while he and his team don’t see many cancer patients – between five and 20 per year – the work they do is crucial to improving the quality of life.

“Plastic surgery is an integral part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, cancer treatment team, which we have here at WVU Medicine Children’s,” Brooke said. “… It’s important for us as an institution that we are able to provide the full spectrum of sophisticated medical care available to the rest of the country.”
