SYRACUSE, NY — Kevin Toms was seven years old when his best friend Griffin lost the battle to a rare form of brain cancer.
For the past four years, Toms has organized a bottles and cans drive for Griffin’s Guardians, a foundation that spreads awareness for pediatric cancer and gives families hope, providing them with financial assistance.
On Saturday, the 5th annual “Can Crush Cancer” bottle and can drive kicked off.
Bags of cans and bottles filled a box truck, and Griffin’s Guardians received an individual donation of $1,000.
Over four years, Toms has raised over $19,000 in his bottle and can drive. When he began this project in 2020, his fundraising goal was to raise $20,000 before he graduated high school. Now, as a senior, Toms has raised that goal to $25,000.
