ROXBURY, NJ – All schools in the Roxbury district will participate Oct. 23 in “PJ Day” in memory of Henry Aulenbach, an 8-year-old who died in 2019 due to brain cancer.
The fundraising effort is sponsored by Rox-THON, a club at Roxbury High School that raises money to fight pediatric cancer mainly through the annual Rox-THON all-night dance party. The club hopes to raise at least $2,000 through this year’s PJ Day, collecting money from donations by Roxbury students as well as the wider community.
“In January of 2019, Henry, eight years old, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and treated at Goryeb Children’s Hospital,” said the club in a statement. “His mom, Chrissie, worked at Roxbury High School, so Rox-THON supported her and her family through Henry’s cancer treatments.”
Members of the Rox-THON club began tutoring Henry in 2019 to help the third-grader as he was forced to miss many days in school due to his illness. They were hoping Henry would beat his illness and return to school.
