You might expect a man with 83 skeletons, a few dozen rats, a score of gravestones, and a handful of ghouls in his front yard to be a pretty morbid character — but you’d be wrong.
Mike Bagley is a jolly, generous fellow whose personality is more Santa Claus than Gomez Addams. He uses his family’s over-the-top Halloween display as a fund-raiser for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s campaign to treat — and eventually conquer — something that’s truly scary: pediatric cancer.
People who stop at Mr. Bagley’s house on East Lincolnshire Boulevard between Central Avenue and Westol Drive can scan a QR code that’s printed on a sign in his yard and be connected to directly to the St. Jude donation portal. One hundred percent of all donations go to the charity; there are no processing fees or middlemen involved.
The idea for the display came naturally to Mr. Bagley about eight years ago.
