SHREWSBURY, Mass. – A 12-year-old from Shrewsbury is helping kids with kids cancer by shaving her head.

With a big smile on her face, Ellie Carriveau is ditching her strawberry blonde hair and going bald.

“I have seen videos of people doing it on YouTube and I thought why don’t I do that because it seems nice,” Ellie said.

Ellie’s from Shrewsbury and is taking part in a fundraiser for Saint Baldrick’s. It’s a nonprofit which raises money for childhood cancer research. Ellie says she’s had a lot of support and has raised more than $5,000.

“I wanted to help people and not make them feel alone,” Ellie said.

And Ellie isn’t alone in shaving her head. Her brother Ben decided to shave his, too.

“Obviously Ellie is the brave one here, but anything I can do to help support her I want to. I’m so proud of her,” Ben said.

But Ellie has a confidence which shines through on her own. She was given an option to just go with a buzz cut, but says she wanted to go all the way.

“A lot of girls my age don’t really want to and they say I could never do that,” said Carriveau

And as for her luscious locks, those are also going to help kids who have cancer. She’s donating her hair to Wigs for Kids.
