Col Reynolds used to take joy from the smiles he’d see on the young cancer patients he took for regular outings on his tour bus.
He would take them on day trips and overnight stays, on harbour cruises, to wildlife parks, and snowfields.
For the kids, it was a rare chance to be kids again – a break from the routine of their tragically shortened lives and debilitating chemotherapy routines.
ut over time, despite the warnings of staff, Col found himself getting too close to the kids, and the pain of losing them became too much to bear.
“There was a little girl that I was very attached to. She was very frail… She died when she was not quite seven years of age,” he said.
“She had acute myeloid leukaemia… and… it busted my heart.”
