TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT)—One local football player has overcome the odds and beat cancer, a dreaded disease we all know too well.
A special night unfolded at Kimberly High School on Oct. 11, when senior Gunner Stringham led a halftime event that combined football with a powerful message of hope and giving back.
Kimberly hosted Wood River, but the night was more than just a football game.
At halftime, the crowd turned their attention to a heartfelt speech delivered by Kevin Jones, an Orthopedic specialist at the University of Utah, who held a connection with Gunner Stringham and made the trip from Salt Lake City, Utah.
“Everyone comes with a story, and everyone lives a story afterward, and watching some of those stories unfold is a definite privilege of my job,” Jones said. “Seeing these kids do some amazing things afterward is incredible.
For Stringham, his story began when he was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that was found in his shin.
The family first took notice after Stringham took a hit on the shin and his pain was more than a typical bruise.
